Welcome to the McCloud Remedy pension calculator

  • This calculator has been designed by NPCC to help serving and retiring police officers estimate their pension benefit options under the McCloud Remedy
  • The calculator is highly accurate. The Met’s internal pension team have tested it and believe it's accurate enough for you to plan for your retirement
  • You can use the calculator even if you’re not close to your retirement age. Simply change your date of birth (for illustration purposes only) to see what your situation would be at retirement
  • Take some time to use the calculator to see your pension benefit options under the McCloud Remedy
Note: This calculator is for guidance purposes only and the outputs provided are an estimate only. It is not intended to provide you with financial advice. If you need financial advice, speak to an independent financial advisor (IFA)

How do I get started?

All you have to do is answer a few simple questions …

  • Scroll down the page to the START button
  • Choose which legacy scheme you were in before April 1st 2015 (PPS 87 or NPPS 06)
  • Enter your date of birth and the date you joined the pension scheme (normally the day you started at MPS)
  • You will also be asked to confirm if you are receiving your pension or whether you have opted out or left service (the answer is no if you are still serving)
  • Confirm your current salary – as well as your salary on 1st April 2015
  • If you’ve worked any part time hours, enter them here
  • If you are a serving officer, confirm that you are a member of the Met and your current rank
  • You will then be shown a summary of your entries. Check that this is accurate.
  • Press CONTINUE – and that’s all you need to do.

Your pension scenarios

The screen displays a number of bar charts summarising the various pension options under the legacy scheme (this means Remedy) as well as under ‘Reformed’ PPS 15 scheme

  • You can look at your pension benefits if you take a maximum lump cash sum or if you just take a small amount or indeed none at all
  • You can see what happens if you choose to retire at 55 or at 60 and the difference that makes to your pension.
  • Legacy means you remain in your legacy scheme until 31st March 2022. This means you take the McCloud Remedy

  • Reformed means you move into PPS 15 from 1st April 2015. This means you do not take the McCloud Remedy. You can ‘toggle’ between the scheme benefits for Legacy (Remedy) and Reformed (not Remedy)

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and press CONTINUE
  • The screen shows two graphs
  • Scroll using the 3 circles at the bottom of the screen to see the choices for:
  • Immediate Retirement’

  • Retirement at age 60

  • Comparison chart

  • Take a look at the comparison chart for each pension. If you ‘hover over’ the chart, you can see the figures being used for your pension and lump sum amounts. This will enable you to get a clear picture of the difference between the two pension options.
